A Minute by Tuk Tuk.

  • The Tuk Tuk restaurant and Bar is an up market dining and lounge bar set on the roof top level at 1 Galle Face Shangri-la mixed used development. The restaurant is the evolution of minute by Tuk Tuk (currently at the Dutch Hospital Galle), creating a modern, sleek lounge bar and restaurant with a sophisticated playful feel which suits the Shangri-La brand yet maintaining the core design elements of Tuk Tuk.

The lounge consists of indoor and outdoor dining options. To further enhance the lounge bar experience. The fully glazed restaurant front provides an uninterrupted view of the Galle face beach and its extraordinary sunset skies adding a brilliant natural backdrop to the space.

The amalgamation of the warm set sun hues and the daring metallic cool tones gave rise to the overall colour pallet for the interior. The loose furniture and its textures are set on neutral, masculine tones whilst the shell of the interior takes on bold, bright, and playful feminine hues. The combination creates a simple yet, elegant balance of colour and texture. The floor finishes consists of two materials. The emerald dark green marble walkway divides the bar from the lounge area, whilst the lounge and bar counter floor areas are cladded with solid timber. The termination junctions are defined with a dull metallic bronze beading complimenting both the rustic timber as well as the emerald marble.

The ceiling is finished with hexagonal shaped mirror shards to give a sense of exaggerated vertical expanse to the restaurant. The light features to the restaurant are of various pendant types and floor lights, with copper and wrought iron finishes. The timber cladded bottle bank with recessed lights against the emerald green marble walls provides more emphasis to colours used in the restaurant. The personalized bottle bank gives the customers a sense of status at the bar creating their own niche of entertainment. The bottle bank is designed with the used of fabric code in trellis form as a covering for the sliding doors, which gives a translucent view of the bottled spirits held behind, and customized.

Even though the colours are bold in nature, it is precisely balanced with the colour tones of the furniture to avoid the overwhelming sensation of the ambience and to match the decadent plates of delectable Sri Lankan cuisine.
